Calorie labeling in supermarket delis?
Under the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) chain restaurants and similar retail food establishments with 20+ locations will be required to list calorie content information for standard menu items.
A new bill introduced to the Senate last month by Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Angus King (I-ME) is calling on the FDA to amend it to exclude grocery stores and other related businesses.
However, the CSPI and the APHA argue that consumers “should be able to make informed decisions everywhere” - whether in a KFC, a movie theater or in Kroger.
Expect an update in 2014.
