Protein-packed chip targets fitness-minded
Betting on continued dual demand for high-protein options and healthful snacks, snacks manufacturer ProFormance has debuted ProTings chips to select retailers in the Northeast. The vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, GMO-free and kosher chips are packed with 15 grams, and contain 120 calories and 7 carbs per serving. They’re available in three flavors: Chili Lime, Sea Salt and Tangy Southern BBQ in 1 oz. (MSRP $1.99) and 4 oz. (MSRP $3.99) bags.
Although Innova Market Insights data for the year to March 31, 2014 found that 6% of all US food and beverage product launches were marketed on “high protein” or source of protein” positionings, ProFormance cited frustration with the lack of high-protein snack options on the market as its primary reason for launching ProTings.
The chips’ primary protein source is pea protein isolate, which the company calls “one of the best proteins for human consumption due to its easy digestibility, lack of allergens, and ideal combination of essential amino acids”. Studies have also found that pea protein may balance nitrogen levels in muscles and help restore that balance after daily activities or a trip to the gym. (Read more about ProTings.)
