Switching to LED lights saves $40,000 a year
When MOM’s switched to longer-lasting, energy efficient LED lights in 2011 it was a “risky” move, but one that paid off, Egland-Smith said.
She explained that when the retailer made the change LED lights were “cold,” and the store worried that if aisles were “dim” consumers might not buy as much. But after a pilot program, the company realized this wasn’t the case.
It switched more than 900 incandescent track lights with LEDs and within nine months the change generated enough cost-savings to pay for the labor, hardware and equipment to make the change.
Now “we are looking at about $40,000 savings every year just by switching to track lighting with LEDs,” Egland-Smith said.
