“We try to use renewable materials whenever possible,” and this has simplified construction and made the shopping experience better, Egland-Smith said. For example, the company uses bamboo for wellness shelving and a customer service desk. It also uses wood for in-store signs instead of popular plastic-corrugated cardboard mixtures that do not look as good as wood and are not recyclable, she said.
The firm also reduces materials when it can, she said. Instead of spending resources on excessive floor materials, the company simply sealed the concrete floor in most locations or repurposed old tiles.
