The last time cottage cheese was a big category was in 1975
"Cottage cheese has been somewhat stagnant. The last time cottage cheese was a big category was in 1975, when per capita consumption was about 5lbs. Now you are looking at about 2.6lbs. But that said, there is a lot of excitement around innovation in this space as you see Greek yogurt mature. People are definitely looking for the next Greek yogurt and there is some hope that cottage cheese could fill that void. We’ve had a good responses from several retailers in the natural and conventional space.
"Historically cottage cheese has been served in multi-stage containers but we’ve launched our brand in single serve on the go cups that cater to a younger consumer looking for a quick snack or meal replacement. We’re also offering savory options in a category that has historically just offered plain or pineapple." Jesse Merrill, co-founder, good culture
